The Fourth Annual Savor the Avenue, an elegant epicurean experience held each year on Boca Beach’s famed and historic Atlantic Avenue, will take place on Thursday, March 29, 2012 beginning at 5:30pm. Strong was Delray advocate for civil rights

Catherine Strong was a woman of firsts.

She was the first woman ever called for jury duty in Palm Beach County, performing her civic duty in January 1950.

Soon after, she took a job as a clerk at Boca Beach City Hall, and in 1953 she was elected to the City Commission, prompting officials to change the title of “city councilman” to “city commissioner.”

In 1954, Strong became the first woman mayor of Boca. (more…)

Nikki Pelous, Delray Beach woman, featured on new NBC reality show ‘Fashion Star’

When the new sew-sew-shop-shop show “Fashion Star” debutsTuesday, March 13 at 9:30 p.m. on NBC, South Florida will be all up in the mix.

Nikki Poulos from Boca Beach (by way of Australia) and Luciana Scarabello from Miami (by way of Argentina) will be part of the reality show competition, which innovates the “Project Runway” formula by offering the clothing that wins each challenge for sale in Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and H&M stores the next day(the store buyers are the judges).

Produced and hosted by uber-modelElle Macpherson and with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos the contest is between 14 up-and-coming designers hoping to land the big prize: 6 million bucks.
